Cherry, Bekaert & Holland LLP, a public accounting and consulting firm with offices in Vienna, named Kurt E. Miller an audit partner in its nonprofit industry group.


Strategic Communications Group Inc., a Silver Spring public relations agency, promoted Shany Seawright to managing director. Ms. Seawright joined Strategic in 2004 after working for Hill & Knowlton, GCI Group and Merritt Group in the Atlanta and Washington markets.

Jessica Klenk was named account manager for Boscobel Marketing Communications in Silver Spring.


Senny Boone was named senior vice president for corporate and social responsibility for the Direct Marketing Association. Ms. Boone was vice president, special counsel and executive director of the DMA Nonprofit Federation, an organization of nearly 400 nonprofit organizations and 90 fundraising and marketing companies.

Miguel Angel Garcia was named vice president of financial and administrative services for Northern Virginia Community College, effective Oct. 1. Mr. Garcia was vice president of finance and administration at the Polytechnic University of Puerto Rico in San Juan.

Shane M. Artim joined the American Society of Appraisers in Herndon as legislative liaison and public relations manager. Mr. Artim previously worked in communications at the American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials.


David Browder joined QinetiQ North America as senior vice president for business development in the company’s mission solutions group in Fairfax. Mr. Browder previously was vice president for defense business development at Computer Sciences Corp. Before joining CSC, he worked for Northrop Grumman Information Technology.

Avectra, a provider of membership management software, named Brad T. Layman vice president of sales at its McLean office. Mr. Layman previously served as vice president of sales and marketing for VSGi and as vice president of U.S. sales for Cable and Wireless.


Benchmark Hospitality International of Houston, appointed Jennifer Croce director of conference services for the Lockheed Martin Center for Leadership Excellence, expected to open in February in Bethesda. Ms. Croce previously served as director of banquets for the Ritz-Carlton, Bachelor Gulch in Avon, Colo.


Former U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission Vice Chairwoman Leslie E. Silverman was named a partner in the Washington office of Proskauer Rose LLP. She will join the international law firm’s labor and employment department. Before joining the EEOC in 2002, Ms. Silverman served for five years as labor counsel to the Senate Health, Education, Labor and Pensions Committee.
