Prince George’s County fire officials say eight firefighters received minor injuries while battling a house fire in University Park.

Firefighters were called to the home on Partridge Place around 11 p.m. Sunday and found heavy fire and smoke coming from the two-story home. Firefighters took about an hour to knock the fire down.

Fire department spokesman Mark Brady said the family of five who live in the house escaped unharmed. He said one resident was awakened by a smoke alarm and helped his wife and three children get out safely.

Mr. Brady said eight firefighters were taken to area hospitals with burns, sprains, lacerations and exhaustion, but their injuries do not appear to be serious.

Investigators believe the fire is accidental and estimate damage at $700,000.
