HARRISONBURG, Va. (AP) — Lt. Gov. Bill Bolling has announced $800,000 in funding for a wind training and testing facility at James Madison University.

Bolling announced the funding Thursday during his keynote address at the State Wind Energy Symposium sponsored by the Virginia Wind Energy Collaborative.

The JMU wind energy center in Harrisonburg will be used for training involving small wind turbine safety, site assessment, installation and troubleshooting.

The funding will also provide for equipment, materials and a new wind tower and turbine.

Bolling’s office said the $800,000 has received preliminary approval from the federal Department of Energy.
