THE NEW JOB: Ousted Hewlett-Packard Co. CEO Mark Hurd is now co-president at Oracle Corp.

THE CHALLENGE: He needs to get used to working as a subordinate after seven years as CEO of HP and NCR Corp. Added to the challenge is that his new boss is one of Silicon Valley’s most domineering, Larry Ellison.

THE PROSPECTS: Hurd could succeed because Ellison may be grooming Hurd to be a successor, and they’ve been friends for years.
