A Beltsville man was injured Monday when he broke a window to rescue a 12-year-old dog from his neighbor’s burning home, Prince George’s County fire officials said.

Firefighters responded to a fire at a two-story, single-family house in the 4100 block of Ulster Road at about 10 a.m. No one was inside except the family dog, the county fire department said.

The neighbor, who was not identified, broke the window of a rear door on the home, allowing the dog to escape with no injuries while firefighters retreated from the house under the threat of a roof collapse. The man sustained minor cuts to his arm.

The cause of the fire remains unknown, though firefighters said it likely started in the attached garage.
