NEW YORK (AP) - The Broadway musicals “Sister Act and “Anything Goes” top the list of nominations for the Outer Critics Circle Awards.

Organizers announced Tuesday that “Sister Act,” the show based on the 1992 Whoopi Goldberg movie, earned nine nominations, while the revival of Cole Porter’s “Anything Goes” nabbed eight nominations.

“The Book of Mormon” from the creators of “South Park” received six nominations, including best new Broadway musical, outstanding new score, choreography and direction. Al Pacino was nominated as outstanding actor in a play for his Shylock in “The Merchant of Venice”

The circle is made up of writers and commentators who cover New York theater for out-of-town media outlets. Their awards will be handed out this year on May 26.
