WALDORF, Md. (AP) — Grief counselors are expected at a Waldorf high school after a technology education teacher was shot and killed inside his car by an acquaintance.

The counselors will be available Wednesday at North Point High School, where 24-year-old Christopher Hoefert taught and was also a track coach.

Police in Charles County say Hoefert was at a stop sign in White Plains on Tuesday afternoon when an acquaintance pulled up beside him, got out of the car and fired several shots. The assailant, identified as 22-year-old Robert Becker, then shot and killed himself.

Hoefert was flown to Prince George’s Hospital Center, where he died.

Police say the men knew each other, and were trying to confirm a possible motive for the shooting.
