A Maryland state trooper shot and wounded a New Jersey man who led police on a chase from the Fort McHenry Tunnel in Baltimore to Prince George’s County on Sunday night.

Thorne A. Wright, 23, was spotted by police at about 9:10 p.m. driving a stolen GMC Envoy on Interstate 95 south of the tunnel, Maryland State Police say. Officers tried to pull over the car when Mr. Wright, who was wanted in New Jersey for a probation violation, gave chase.

The pursuit, which reached speeds of 90 miles per hour, continued on to the Inner Loop of the Capital Beltway, where troopers deployed stop sticks at Route 450.

The Envoy’s left front tire blew, and Mr. Wright pulled over on the shoulder just north of the exit for Ritchie Marlboro Road.

Police said that during the course of the arrest a trooper fired a shot that hit Mr. Wright in the hand.
The officer involved in the shooting was placed on routine administrative leave.
