ANALYSIS/OPINION:

Three cheers for South Dakota Gov. Dennis Daugaard (“South Dakota sets 3-day wait for abortions,” Nation, Wednesday). Many pregnant mothers, especially teenagers, aren’t fully informed of the procedures involved in an abortion and what will happen to their unborn child when it is killed.

Ultrasounds have been very effective in showing the pregnant mother her unborn baby in the womb and have convinced many not to have abortions. Since that is not practical on a large scale, there is an excellent booklet titled “Watch me Grow!” that describes the development of a baby month by month. What the pro-life camp needs is a companion booklet that describes the abortion methods (vacuum aspiration, dilation and evacuation, etc.) at various developmental stages of the unborn child. If some pregnant mothers read both booklets and realize how brutally their unborn babies would be killed, they probably would choose to keep their children, or else put them up for adoption.
