WINTER HAVEN, Fla. (AP) — The new Legoland park in central Florida opens Oct. 15.

Park officials in Winter Haven finally announced the firm opening date this week.

The new 150-acre theme park will cater to kids ages 2 to 12 with more than 50 “pink-knuckle” rides, as well as family focused shows and attractions. More than 50 million of the iconic plastic Lego building bricks are being incorporated into construction.

The attraction is being built on the former site of Cypress Gardens, which was one of Florida’s first theme parks. Legoland is retaining the old park’s famous botanical gardens and water ski shows.

The new Legoland park in Florida is the fifth in the world and the first one on the U.S. east coast.
