One man was shot Wednesday afternoon in the Northwest D.C. neighborhood of Takoma, police said.

The shooting happened around 3:25 p.m. at 6th and Cedar streets, said Metropolitan Police Department spokesman Officer Hugh Carew.

The man, described as a 19-year-old in police alerts, was shot in the back and shoulder. He was conscious and breathing when officers arrived on the scene but his injuries were considered possibly life-threatening, Officer Carew said.

Shortly after the shooting, police were looking for the shooting suspect in the 600 block of Highland Avenue, which is next to the Takoma Education Campus. They had no suspect description available.
