DALLAS (AP) - The Dallas Opera has announced that it has commissioned an opera from composer Jake Heggie and playwright Terrence McNally, the team that collaborated on “Dead Man Walking.”

“Great Scott,” based on an original story from the Tony Award-winning McNally, will be given its world premiere at Dallas’ Winspear Opera House on Oct. 30, 2015, the company said Tuesday. It will star American mezzo-soprano Joyce DiDonato and be conducted by Evan Rogister.

Heggie’s “Moby-Dick” premiered at the Dallas Opera two years ago.

“Great Scott” will focus on a famous American singer, Arden Scott, who returns to her hometown to star in a forgotten operatic masterpiece. Rehearsals and performances reflecting the turmoil of her own life.

The initial run will have five performances.
