The “catch and release” program of President Obama (“Secret report: Catch and release for low-priority illegals proposed,” Web, June 14) should scare every citizen and legal immigrant, regardless of race, creed, color or national origin.

Everyone in the select group of illegals included in the president’s diktat will be eligible to replace an American or legal immigrant in the workplace. Mr. Obama’s campaign believes Americans of Hispanic descent will be overjoyed with this mini-amnesty. Wrong. Hispanic Americans’ jobs will be in jeopardy the same way the jobs of every other person in this country legally will be in jeopardy, regardless of race or nation of birth.

This move will swell the number of unemployed in this country. The deviousness of the policy is revealed in The Washington Times’ story, which reads, “The memo pointedly warns that ‘no public mention’ should be made of the policy in order to keep it from being subject to Freedom of Information Act requests.” The administration didn’t want any public outcry. So much for the transparency Mr. Obama, House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi, California Democrat, and Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, Nevada Democrat, touted during and after the 2008 presidential election.
