NEW YORK (AP) - Fox and other broadcasters want to pull the plug on Aereo, a startup they say steals their signals to provide live programming for iPhone and computer users.

Aereo CEO Chaitanya Kanojia (kay-TAHN-yah CAN-oh-gee) testified Wednesday at a hearing in the New York City case. He told a judge that a preliminary injunction sought by the broadcasting giants could unjustly spell the end of the company.

But Kanojia also acknowledged he knew it was likely he’d be sued once he launched the service this year.

Fox, ABC, NBC and other plaintiffs say the $12-a-month service violates copyright protections. Aereo says it’s all legal.

The judge wasn’t expected to rule right away.
