Democratic Sen. Mary Landrieu is the target of a new Republican ad that riffs off the popular Nintendo game “Duck Hunt,” a B-side to the Super Mario Bros. classic that features zig-zagging birds and a mocking dog.

The ad, titled “Misfire,” ran in Louisiana during Wednesday night’s season premiere of the Duck Dynasty reality TV series and will run on cable for two weeks.

Mary Landrieu consistently misfires on the most important issues to Louisiana families,” NRSC spokeswoman Brook Hougesen said.

The 30-second ad features numerous misfires at birds labeled Obamacare, energy, taxes and jobs.

Ms. Landrieu, who joined the Senate in 1997, is up for reelection in 2014 and among the top targets for Republicans hoping to regain the chamber by picking off Democrat-held seats in right-leaning states.

The Times-Picayune newspaper in New Orleans quoted a Landrieu campaign spokesman as saying the ad is “a total quack” and “a desperate, misleading attempt by the NRSC, which hopes it will help them duck the fact that Mary Landrieu has spent her entire time in the Senate fighting and winning for Louisiana.”
