For the first time, the United States has agreed to provide non-lethal aid to Syrian opposition fighters.

The U.S. will be shipping food rations and medical supplies to rebel fighters, according to Reuters. The United States will also give the opposition $60 million for security, Reuters reported.

U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry made the announcement on Thursday.
