Three producers with the San Francisco-area Fox affiliate KTVU were fired this week, the latest fallout from a hoax about the Asiana Airlines crash that led to the inaccurate reporting of the pilots’ names.

The station was fooled into reporting the names of the pilots as “Captain Sum Ting Wong” and “Wi Tu Lo,” among others. A local blogger reported Wednesday that now three producers at the station have been fired, The New York Daily News said.

The crash occurred at San Francisco International Airport.

KTVU said it learned the names of the flight crew aboard the plane from authorities — and that an intern had confirmed the names with the National Transportation Safety Board, The New York Daily News reported.

Turns out, the names weren’t true, but rather a hoax that spread rapidly on the Internet.
