A geoscience professor and co-director of the Institute of the Environment at the University of Arizona stated Wednesday that President Abraham Lincoln would have taken action to stop climate change, since it’s the “moral issue of our time.”
“Reading more about Lincoln now - his approach to slavery makes me sure he would move on stop CC because it is moral issue of our time,” Jonathan Overpeck, or “Peck” as he prefers to be called, tweeted yesterday afternoon.
The reaction to the tweet wasn’t exactly favorable, with some Twitter users even accusing the professor of being on drugs.
“What, exactly are you reading? And do you have a bong going, too?” one response read.
“Lincoln had real problems to worry about, and didn’t have a lot of time to waste on imaginary ones,” read another.
According to his bio, Mr. Peck has published more than 160 papers in climate and the environmental sciences and served as a coordinating lead author for the Nobel Prize-winning UN Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) Fourth Assessment (2007).
