A man who jumped from a nine-story building to avoid arrest in connection with the stabbing death of his girlfriend pleaded guilty Tuesday to her murder.

Martire Fulcar, 32, of Silver Spring pleaded guilty to the first-degree murder of Rocio Morcelo, 37, officials with the Montgomery County State’s Attorney’s Office said.

Fulcar is scheduled to be sentenced in early October and faces 30 years to life in prison. He was critically injured in Miami Beach in September after a suicide attempt in which he jumped from the roof of a nine-story hotel.

Police reports state that on the night of Sept. 21, 2012, Fulcar and Morcelo “got into a domestic argument” at an apartment in the 2200 block of Georgian Way in Silver Spring. Fulcar left the apartment for several hours but returned and “got into another verbal argument and the argument became physical.”

Police said Morcelo was found dead in the apartment stairwell.
