One student is dead, another in critical condition and a couple more injured in a Houston high school stabbing early Wednesday morning that shocked witnesses, who saw trails and pools of blood in the hallway.

One died at the scene, Harris County Sheriff’s Office spokespeople said in The Huffington Post. Police believe the stabbing may have started over a fight in the cafeteria.

Two suspects have been taken into custody, Fox News reported. The critically listed victim, meanwhile, a 16-year-old boy, was flown from Spring High School in Houston to Mermann Memorial Hospital for treatment.

A student at the school posted a photo on her Twitter page that she described as the victim’s blood on the school’s floor.

The details are still spotty and police are investigating.

The incident took place right before classes were due to start. A woman told Fox News she was inside the school and heard shouting and commotion from the cafeteria and then an intercom call for a nurse. She said she looked in the hallway and saw a blood trail that led from the cafeteria to the back of the building.
