PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) - Flood warnings following heavy rains in Rhode Island have been extended for the Pawtuxet River at Cranston and the Pawcatuck River at Westerly.

The National Weather Service says the warnings will remain in effect until Wednesday morning.

The weather service says the Pawtuxet River was at 8.8 feet by midmorning Tuesday, just under the 9-foot flood stage. Forecasters said they expected it to rise to near flood stage Tuesday evening, with parts of Cranston and Warwick affected.

The Pawcatuck was two feet above the 7-foot flood stage on Monday.
