HALLTOWN, Mo. (AP) - A southwest Missouri sheriff says a man found dead outside a burning home appears to have intentionally set several fires on his property before fatally shooting himself.

Lawrence County Sheriff Brad Delay told The Monett Times (https://bit.ly/1on6zLR ) that the 73-year-old man’s body was found in the yard of his home northeast of Halltown in Lawrence County with a shotgun wound in the chest. The Associated Press isn’t naming the man.

Delay says a shotgun was found next to the man’s body, and that passersby discovered a burning barn and the other fires at 11:15 a.m. Tuesday.

The sheriff says a coroner will determine the cause of death. An autopsy was scheduled for Wednesday in Springfield.
