CHARLESTON, W.Va. (AP) - Snowshoe Mountain resort has halted plans to keep its ski slopes open for the first weekend in April.

The Pocahontas County resort had hoped to let skiers and snowboarders have one last weekend of fun on April 5 and 6.

But Snowshoe says in a news release that recent rains along with a forecast for warmer temperatures and even more rain prompted the resort to shut its slopes on Sunday.

Snowshoe says it’s working to notify guests who had made ski reservations about the change.
