SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (AP) - Many schools in northern South Dakota are starting late and some are closed for the day in the wake of a spring blizzard that crossed the state.

The Monday storm dumped as much as 10 inches of snow in northeastern South Dakota, with lesser but still-significant amounts to the west. It shut down schools, government offices in 16 western and central counties, and roads.

Interstate 90 has reopened between Ellsworth Air Force Base and Wall in the southwestern part of the state, and I-29 in the east has reopened from Brookings to the North Dakota border. The entire stretch of I-29 in North Dakota also has been reopened.
