DENVER (AP) - Denver is putting out the welcome mat for a group from the Republican National Committee on the first of six visits to potential hosts for the party’s national convention in 2016.

Committee officials want to take a closer look at venues, hotels and financing on Wednesday.

The Republican National Committee announced earlier this month that Denver made the latest cut along with Cleveland, Cincinnati, Dallas, Kansas City and Las Vegas. Columbus and Phoenix were eliminated from consideration.

According to the Denver Post (https://tinyurl.com/kzdtt5a ), Denver says its success with the 2008 Democratic convention shows it can handle such a large event. Republicans would be nominating their presidential candidate in the same city where Barack Obama won his nomination.
