DULUTH, Minn. (AP) - Deep snow in parts of Minnesota and Wisconsin is proof of the weather adage that in April, just about anything can happen.

The National Weather Service reports 19 inches of new snow in Isanti Thursday, 17 inches in the Anoka County city of Nowthen and 15 inches in the northwestern Wisconsin community of Minong (MEYE’-nong), Wis.

Ashland and Bayfield schools are closed in Wisconsin. Other districts, including Cloquet and Carlton schools in Minnesota, have delayed their start by two hours. The Wisconsin Department of Transportation says roads throughout the northern region of the state are snow covered.

The Minnesota Department of Transportation reports difficult driving conditions from Cook County southwest to Lincoln County.
