HENDERSON, Ky. (AP) - A southern Indiana woman and her boyfriend have been charged with committing sexual offenses against children in western Kentucky after prosecutors say they threatened the children with “hexes and curses”

The Gleaner reported (https://bit.ly/1gobGkR ) that 28-year-old Jessica M. Smith of Evansville, Ind., and her boyfriend, Michael W. Kurtz of Corydon, Ky., each face charges of sexual abuse and unlawful transactions with a minor. Kurtz also faces a charge of use of a minor in a sexual performance.

Prosecutors say the couple hosted a party at Smith’s house in Henderson where the kids between the ages of 6 and 13 were involved in making and viewing pornography as well as live sexual performances.

Police say Smith described herself as a witch and told the kids “she was going to put a spell on them” and that “if they told anyone, something bad would happen to them.”

A grand jury handed up the charges on Tuesday.

According to documents filed in the Henderson Judicial Center, the young people were exposed to a variety of sexual situations.

Some were shown pornography involving animated characters and also videos of sexual activities which featured Smith, the court papers said. Police said one of the juveniles actually shot the video of Smith engaged in a sexual activity.

Some of the children were shown pornographic magazines, and others were told to watch a live performance of Smith and Kurtz having sexual intercourse, the court documents said. The children were also told to perform sexual activities with each other, court papers said. Police said marijuana and alcohol were allegedly provided to some of the juveniles.
