OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) - Part of northern Oklahoma is under a tornado watch as a storm system forecast to bring high winds and large hail develops over the state.

The National Weather Service said Wednesday that several tornadoes are possible in the watch area.

Forecasters issued the watch for areas west and north of Oklahoma City and Tulsa. The watch extends into southern Kansas and southwestern Missouri, including Joplin and an area to the north.

Though Oklahoma City and Tulsa are excluded from the tornado watch, forecasters caution that severe weather is possible in both of the large metro areas.

Forecasters say hail as large as baseballs or tennis balls is possible Wednesday along with winds of up to 70 mph and isolated tornadoes.

Wildfire risks are elevated in western Oklahoma.
