COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) - Andrew Coffman Smith, who has covered local and state government issues in Tennessee for several years, is joining The Associated Press as a temporary legislative relief reporter.

Smith will join South Carolina Statehouse reporter Seanna Adcox to help cover the remainder of the 2014 legislative session as well as this year’s June primary election.

The announcement was made Tuesday by South Region Editor Lisa Marie Pane and News Editor Timothy Rogers.

Smith has worked for several papers in Tennessee and Northern Ireland including most recently Nashville Today/Green Hills News.

Smith earned a master’s degree in journalism from the University of Ulster in Northern Ireland and an undergraduate degree in political science and history from the University of Tennessee.
