INSTITUTE, W.Va. (AP) - Kumara (Koo-MARH’-uh) Jayasuriya (JAZ’-uh-ree-ha) has been named provost and vice president of academic affairs at West Virginia State University.

The university said Wednesday that Jayasuriya’s appointment is effective July 1.

He currently is associate vice chancellor for academic affairs and a professor of mathematics at Purdue University North Central.

He previously served at Indiana University East as dean of the School of Natural Science and Mathematics and in several other positions.

Jayasuriya also has served as a peer reviewer for the Higher Learning Commission of the North Central Association and for The National Alliance of Concurrent Enrollment Partnerships.
