Caroline Kennedy, the new U.S. ambassador to Japan, says it would be “great” if Hillary Rodham Clinton runs for president.

Mrs. Kennedy, who along with her uncle, the late Massachusetts Sen. Edward M. Kennedy, endorsed then-Sen. Barack Obama in the 2008 race of the Democratic nomination, giving him a boost in his race against Mrs. Clinton.

“I would like to see her run if that’s what she wants to do, I think she’d be great,” Mrs. Kennedy said on MSNBC’s “Morning Joe.” “That would be great.”

Polls show that if Mrs. Clinton enters the race she would be the clear front-runner to win the 2016 Democratic nomination for president.
