GUNNISON, Utah (AP) - A lockdown at the state prison in Gunnison has been lifted.

The lockdown at the Central Utah Correctional Facility was lifted Thursday, three days after a defendant was fatally shot by a U.S. marshal while attacking a witness during a federal court trial in Salt Lake City.

Monday’s death of alleged gang member Siale Angilau prompted the Utah Department of Corrections to impose lockdowns at both the Gunnison facility and the Utah State Prison in Draper to prevent any potential retaliation.

Department officials say several operations would remain suspended through the weekend at the Draper prison, including volunteer-led programs and use of the prison yard.

The Draper prison houses about 4,500 male inmates, while the Gunnison facility is home to 1,600 male inmates.
