RICHMOND, Va. (AP) - The Supreme Court of Virginia has a new chief staff attorney.

The court announced Lori Lord’s appointment Thursday. She succeeds Jay Stroman, who resigned. Lord begins her new duties May 5.

Lord comes to the Supreme Court from the McGuireWoods law firm, where she is senior counsel in the complex commercial litigation practice group.

The chief staff attorney oversees the work of a dozen staff attorneys and law clerks who help the justices by reviewing petitions, preparing memoranda and drafting orders.
