SALT LAKE CITY (AP) - More than 2,000 Democrats are expected to gather Saturday at their state convention to choose nominees for Congress and elect a new party chair.

The convention kicks off at 10:30 a.m. at the Salt Palace Convention Center.

Only two of the four races for U.S. House are contested. In the 4th Congressional District, attorney Doug Owens, the son of late U.S. Rep. Wayne Owens, is facing retired engineer Bill Peterson. In the 1st Congressional District, business executive Donna McAleer is squaring off against physician Peter Clemens.

Running unopposed are Luz Robles in the 1st Congressional District and Brian Wonnacott in the 3rd Congressional District.

Delegates will choose between former Salt Lake County mayor Peter Corroon and Brigham Young University political scientist Richard Davis to succeed Jim Dabakis as party chair.
