VICKSBURG, Miss. (AP) - Warren County officials say construction could begin this fall on a shooting range for local law enforcement officers.

The Vicksburg Post reports (https://bit.ly/1nQ7iB9 ) that the range will be on 14 acres at Ceres Research and Industrial Interplex, which is east of Vicksburg near the Big Black River.

Authorities originally planned to start the project earlier, but construction was delayed by last year’s federal spending freeze that affected the National Guard.

Agencies expected to use the range include the Vicksburg Police Department, Department of Defense personnel at the U.S. Army Engineer Research and Development Center, resource officers with the Vicksburg Warren School District and the Mississippi Gaming Commission.

Local law enforcement officers have used a variety of places outside Warren County for target practice.
