BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) - The state’s official history museum, the North Dakota Heritage Center, is slated for a soft opening this week after undergoing renovations for nearly two years.

The museum will open to the public after Gov. Jack Dalrymple visits the facility on Monday. The center has been closed since the fall of 2012 for a $51.7 million makeover that will expand it by about 100,000 square feet.

The Heritage Center is located on the state Capitol grounds and is home to the State Historical Society of North Dakota. The first two galleries of the three-gallery expansion will be open beginning Monday, the Bismarck Tribune (https://bit.ly/1lXAMQH ) reported.

The Adaptation Gallery focuses on ancient North Dakota and will include dinosaur skeletons, while the Innovation Gallery centers on the state’s history from about 13,000 years ago to the present. It includes exhibitions on agriculture and technological advancements.

The newspaper reported that the historical society recently received a certificate of occupancy that allows the center to host visitors.

The grand opening for the expanded and renovated center is scheduled for November, which is the 125th anniversary of North Dakota’s statehood.
