MEDIA, Pa. (AP) - Prosecutors in southeastern Pennsylvania have announced charges in what they are calling a $1 million embezzlement case.

Chester County authorities allege that 59-year-old Joyce Hawkins of West Chester took more than $1 million from 2010 to 2014 while she was a senior employee at Modular Space Corp.

The Berwyn-based company provides modular buildings and portable storage for commercial, construction and other firms.

District Attorney Tom Hogan said the criminal complaint alleges that as director of compensation and benefits, Hawkins created a dummy entity and funneled company money into it using the names of former employees.

Prosecutors said she used the proceeds to pay for a lifestyle that included a Chesapeake Bay vacation home and two boats.

Defense attorney Hilary Styer did not immediately return a call seeking comment.
