VALPARAISO, Ind. (AP) - A judge will decide June 24 whether to accept a plea agreement between prosecutors and a northwest Indiana woman in the hit-and-run death of a 50-year-old man whose body was found along Interstate 94.
50-year-old Patricia Callahan of Portage pleaded guilty Tuesday in Porter County Court to leaving the scene of an accident resulting in death in return for prosecutors dropping charges of reckless homicide and insurance fraud.
Defense attorney Larry Rogers says he thinks Callahan pleaded guilty to what she is guilty of. He says Callahan thought she had hit a deer on a night in August 2013 when she had in fact hit Ricky Kimble of LaPorte, but she still should have stopped and called police.
The Times reports Kimble’s family members are dissatisfied with the deal.
