NEWARK, N.J. (AP) - Two northern New Jersey women involved in a scheme to write more than $500,000 in counterfeit checks are now headed to prison.
Federal prosecutors say 29-year-old Latisha White received a 26-month sentence on Tuesday, while 30-year-old Synethia Bland got a two-year sentence.
The Elizabeth residents also will have to serve three years of supervised release once they’re freed from prison, and each woman will forfeit $225,000. They also will have to pay restitution, but that amount has not been determined.
The women pleaded guilty last December to bank fraud conspiracy. They admitted taking numerous checks that White created on her computer using check-writing software and depositing them in multiple accounts at TD Bank.
Bland also recruited others to use their own accounts or open new accounts to deposit the checks
