YANKTON, S.D. (AP) - A 12-year-old Yankton-area girl was treated at a hospital for bites and cuts on her arms and legs after being attacked by what authorities described as a pit bull.

The Yankton County Sheriff’s Office tells the Daily Press & Dakotan newspaper (https://bit.ly/PNBfWy ) that the girl was attacked in a mobile home park east of Yankton while walking to school Monday morning. Sheriff Jim Vlahakis says the dog was on a chain but broke loose.

No charges are pending, but the sheriff says the dog is quarantined for 10 days. He says after that, the owner will either take the dog to the Humane Society or have it euthanized.

Vlahakis says the same dog bit a girl in a city park in 2012.
