LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (AP) - A severe thunderstorm contained a radar-indicated tornado in northern Arkansas as a potentially dangerous weather system made its way across the state.

A persistent thunderstorm Thursday evening led to several tornado warnings in Baxter, Izard, Marion and Stone counties, though no tornado was confirmed on the ground.

A tornado watch remained in effect for the western two-thirds of state until midnight.

Sections of northeast and southwest Arkansas were placed under a tornado watch until 4 a.m.

Earlier in the day, hail the size of golf balls and winds up to 60 mph hit portions of Arkansas, knocking out electricity to spots in western Arkansas.

Trained spotters reported winds up to 60 mph at Bella Vista in far northwestern Arkansas, along with hail damage to vehicles.
