SOUTHFIELD, Mich. (AP) - Michigan gubernatorial candidate Mark Schauer is scheduled to hold a series of news conferences where he is expected to announce Oakland County Clerk Lisa Brown as his running mate in this year’s election.

Schauer’s campaign says he will stop Thursday morning at Oakland Community College in Southfield. A late morning announcement at Flint’s Mott Community College will be followed by one in Grand Rapids.

The former congressman from Battle Creek is challenging incumbent Republican Gov. Rick Snyder.

Brown most recently was one of four county clerks who issued marriage licenses to same-sex couples a day after a federal judge overturned the state’s ban on them and before a federal appeals panel suspended the marriages.

She has been clerk since 2013. Before that, she served four years in the Michigan House.
