BOZEMAN, Mont. (AP) - Two Montana environmental groups have filed a lawsuit against the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service for failing to develop a recovery plan for bull trout, which were listed as a threatened species in the northwestern United States in the late 1990s.
The Endangered Species Act requires final plans for the recovery of a species should be published within 2.5 years of listing.
The Bozeman Daily Chronicle reports (https://bit.ly/1kxKT9C) the Alliance for the Wild Rockies notified the wildlife agency a year ago that it was going to sue over the lack of a recovery plan. That suit was delayed after supervisors said a draft plan would be ready by January 2014. A draft was not released.
The Alliance for the Wild Rockies and Friends of the Wild Swan filed their complaint Tuesday in U.S. District Court in Portland, Ore.
