TUCSON, Ariz. (AP) - Tucson police say a board of inquiry will investigate last month’s “unlawful assembly” that occurred near the University of Arizona campus.
But they say it could take months to review and compile volumes of evidence that includes videos, photographs and statements and they’ll be “no rush to judgment.”
Fans took to the streets after the Wildcats’ basketball team lost in the NCAA tournament on March 29. They hurled beer bottles and firecrackers at police, who used pepper spray to disperse the crowd.
A bystander’s cellphone video shows a police sergeant apparently shoving a woman who was walking by into a bench.
Police say the actions of the 18-year department veteran will be referred to the Arizona Department of Public Safety for review and presentation to the state Attorney General’s Office.
