SPRINGFIELD, Ohio (AP) - Former U.S. Department of Defense Secretary James Schlesinger is being buried this weekend next to his late wife in the Ohio city where she was from.

The Littleton & Rue Funeral Home says Schlesinger’s funeral will be Saturday at the Grace Evangelical Lutheran Church in Springfield. Funeral director Rob Kampman says burial will be at the Ferncliff Cemetery.

Schlesinger was a onetime economics professor and nuclear strategist who held a string of Cabinet and other high-level posts through three presidential administrations. He built an impressive national security resume under Republicans Richard Nixon and Gerald Ford and served as the nation’s first energy secretary under Democrat Jimmy Carter. He also served as CIA chief.

He died March 27 at age 85. His wife, Rachel Schlesinger, died in 1995.
