GOLDEN MEADOW, La. (AP) - Nominations close Friday evening for candidates to become chief of the United Houma Nation.

The Daily Comet (https://bit.ly/QIZTZF) reports the chief’s post, now held by Thomas Dardar Jr., comes up for election four years. The next election is June 7.

Qualifying candidates must be a registered member of the tribe, at least 35 years old, have a high school diploma and reside within one of the tribe’s voting districts.

Eligibility forms are available at the tribe’s office at 20986 Louisiana Highway 1 in Golden Meadow.
