President Obama’s comments on the gruesome slaughter of journalist James Foley by the Islamic State had all the passion of a person finding a wine stain on his rug. The entire world saw the vomit-inducing video and the president’s reaction. I cannot imagine any other president in my lifetime reacting with such a cold and dispassionate attitude toward such a barbaric act.

When Gen. Colin L. Powell was asked how America would defeat the Iraqi army during the first Gulf War to liberate Kuwait, he said “We’ll cut it off and kill it.” While a president is not expected to use such blunt words, the American people do expect more than professorial comments about how nasty these barbarians are in the 21st century followed by a trip to the golf course.

“No-drama Obama” outdid himself this time. The gruesome slaughter of an American is worth a 5-minute comment and another 18 holes on the golf course. God help us.
