A female soldier who brought a gun into an Army facility in Virginia on Monday and shot herself has died, Pentagon officials said.

The soldier, who has not been identified, barricaded herself in the Combined Armed Support Command Headquarters of Fort Lee, brandished a weapon and fired the single shot, Army spokesman spokesman Army Col. Steve Warren told reporters. She was transported to a local hospital, where she died.

Col. Warren said it was unclear if the building was the soldier’s place of duty or if she went there for a specific purpose.

Fort Lee officials said on the base’s social media page that the situation was under control by 9:50 a.m.

Fort Lee is about 30 miles south of Richmond.
