Former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton was a surprise guest on The Colbert Report on Tuesday night, yukking it up with the host in a name-dropping contest.

Mr. Colbert, who plays a conservative pundit on the satirical political talk show, jabbed Mrs. Clinton about the vast number of celebrity and political figures she mentioned in the pages of her new memoir “Hard Choices,” reported the Hill.

Mr. Colbert bragged that he too rubbed elbows with plenty of celebrities, setting off a furious exchange of name-dropping with Mrs. Clinton, who is promoting her book in advance of an expected 2016 run for the Democratic presidential nomination.

The comedian said he had met actor George Clooney.

“Oh, I love George,” Mrs. Clinton shot back. “I wish you could have joined us when we had lunch with Meryl Streep and Ecuadorian president Rafael Correa.”

The host fired back that he had gone camping with Oprah Winfrey.

“Oh?” exclaimed Mrs. Clinton.

“Oh, does that surprise you?” said Mr. Colbert.

“No, ‘O’ is just what all her real friends call Oprah,” retorted Mrs. Clinton, who laughed throughout the spot.

The interview provided a rare episode of levity in Mrs. Clinton’s book tour, which was marred by bad reviews of her memoir and her gaff of claiming that she and her husband, former President Bill Clinton, were “dead broke” when they left the White House.
