DeSean Jackson was on the field early Thursday night, throwing passes to fellow wide receiver Pierre Garcon. That’s about all the activity Jackson will see during the Redskins’ preseason opener against the New England Patriots.

Jackson is among seven players, including Garcon, who will not be playing.

Jackson sprained his left ankle Wednesday at practice in Richmond. It’s no surprise he will take the preseason opener off.

Andre Roberts is expected to start in place of Jackson.

Also not playing:

Garcon has a strained hamstring. Santana Moss is expected to start in place of Garcon.

Cornerback Tracy Porter, who tore his labrum in the offseason and had surgery. He missed all OTAs.

Safeties Ryan Clark and Phillip Thomas have strained hamstrings. Bacarri Rambo is expected to replace Clark.

Tight end Mike Caussin and center Mike McGlynn are also out with undisclosed injuries.
